Playful Progress: Physiotherapy for Gross Motor Development
Paediatric Physiotherapy
Paediatric physiotherapy specifically focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal, neurological and developmental concerns in infants, children and adolescence.
Paediatric physiotherapy can treat conditions, such as:
-
Gross motor development concerns
Treatment for gross motor development concerns typically involves exercise prescription to help reach relevant developmental milestones,
-
Head shape (plagiocephaly/brachycephaly)
Measurements of head shape can be taken to help determine whether a helmet would be beneficial, or rather exercise and modified activity would be adequate in improving head shape.
-
Torticollis or “wry neck” - abnormal, asymmetrical head or neck position
For issues regarding torticollis, our physiotherapists work with parents and/or caregivers and provide stretches and exercises that can help stretch the muscles and correct the neck position.
For concerns with gross motor development, Annie will prescribe specific exercises to help reach relevant developmental milestones.
By the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of how to manage your child’s concerns, and a tailored plan for ongoing management.
